The Allure of “Million Dollar Baby”

Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” is a vibe, and I’m addicted to it! I’ve seen several TikTok creators asking what makes this song sooo darn addictive. This song is full of contagious melodies that take me back to a time between disco and rap. But what is it about this song that moves me to such strong emotions and nostalgia? There is more to it than that.

Eighties and Nineties Throwback

“Million Dollar Baby “takes me back to the eighties and nineties nostalgia. The VHS version of the song reminds me of a crinkling record when I used to play Janet Jackson over and over again. From cruising from my home to Costco, the bass is booming in my car – blame it on my eighties upbringing steeped in old school R&B and hip-hop.

Euphoria in Every Note

This song just hits differently. It’s like a dopamine rush that’s like me devouring my favorite slice of chocolate cake or hot chocolate. I’m in a euphoric state hearing this song. Maybe it’s also because I’m transported back to my twenties spent dancing in my room to “at night I lock the door where no one else can see” – thanks Madonna or grooving to Janet Jackson’s “Control”. Nevertheless, this song gives me goosebumps every time I play it. It’s a mood-changer and it has me completely under its spell. But as with every song, another will come along making room for the next binge-worthy tune. But for now, I’m taking in every beat and letting it take control of the soundtrack of my summer.
