How valuable is your time? Time is all we have. We can recover things, but not time.
Time is precious.
Time is valuable.
I often ask myself how I can make the most of my time. Where could I stop wasting time? And how can I take better control of my day?
The answer: Set boundaries.
We are responsible for making the best use of our day. No one else is to blame for violating boundaries we have not yet established for ourselves.
Make a Commitment to Yourself
I had to train myself to set boundaries. One example was refusing to allow fruitless conversations by text or chats interrupt my priorities. Second, I stopped renegotiating times I set for myself to perform projects or hobbies outside of my normal routine which resulted in getting things done. I made a commitment to see my hairdresser and rarely canceled (I valued their time). Therefore, I got to the point where I began making appointments with myself (quiet time, nail and hair massage appointments, etc). All of this was a result of valuing my own time.
If you don’t set boundaries others will make up your mind for you and manage your time.
Don’t allow others to manage your time. Setting boundaries by establishing a firm end time at work could result in not missing family dinners or kids’ recitals. If the phone is a distraction, hitting the “do not disturb” button on the phone could preventing interruptions from all those pings.
Below is a summary of what I’ve done to take back my time and it worked!
- Don’t negotiate time with yourself. Keep commitments to yourself.
- Stop allowing others to be the driving force of your decisions. It’s all about making the right sacrifice.
- Spend time on activities that energize you and nix the ones that don’t.
There’s no insurance on time.
Time is a precious commodity and can never be replaced. Therefore, cherish every moment.
