Do It Afraid
Have you ever wanted to do a thing, but overthinking held you back? Well, I’m here to give you permission to do the thing. Do the thing that you’ve been wanting to do. I’ve taken risks in life that have paid off and others not so much, but I have no regrets. Those close to me have called me a go-getter, and I accept the title proudly. Have I been scared? Yes. But I did the thing afraid. I don’t have one goal going into the new year. I remind myself that I have “this much time” while evaluating my progress every few months. Why every few months instead of a year? Because things can change in the blink of an eye. There is just something about planning too far in advance that things begin to fall apart. So, I believe in doing the thing now instead of dwelling.
What I learned Later in Life
Now this isn’t to say that you shouldn’t plan, because you should (I hate that word). It’s smart and wise to plan, but what I’m finding out later in life is that overthinking and rewriting is a waste of time because I will come up with plenty of scenarios. So, what do I do? I take walks and record voice memos when an idea comes to me, making the point to do the thing “right now”. Heck, I’ve spent over half a century on this earth, and I cannot afford to overthink. If I’ve done a thing successfully before, I can do it again. The blueprint is already there! Nevertheless, this is something that happens, and I’m here to make the courageous journey towards the unknown while having an easy time doing.
