Overthinking: The Best Decision is to Make a Decision

When was the last time you didn’t have thoughts running through your mind at 80 mph? I am a recovering overthinker. The best decision is to make a decision. There was a time at any given moment I would ruminate over everything from how I could style my hair to rehearsed lines of a future conversation I planned to have with someone the following day. This constant overthinking about a thing did me no good. It only increased my stress which eventually resulted in taking no action at all out of fear and anxiety.

So, what did I decide to finally do? I began to trust my decisions. I am a planner by nature, but I am not God and have no idea what the future will hold after my decision has been made. Overthinking prevented me from making bold moves, promoted irrational fears, nausea and nervousness. But then I had begun practicing these two things that led me to peace instead of mental torment:

The best decision is to make a decision.

Brought my thinking in alignment with action. It was important for me to act based on the information I currently had instead of creating scenario after scenario.

and

Lightened up—I stopped taking every little thing so seriously.

When I made up my mind to do these two things, I realized how simple it was to take one step toward trusting myself. Because the best decision is to make a decision.
